
There are many beautiful ways to invoke your Lord and ask for what you want. We’ll look at examining “Rabbana”.
“Rabbana” means ‘our Lord.’ A series of 40 Quranic verses that begin with that phrase are called the Rabbana Duas. These verses then continue by asking Allah (swt) of something, forgiveness, wealth, success, prosperity, protection, safety, victory etc.
1.
Rabbana taqabbal minnaa innaka Antas Samee’ul Aleem
“Our Lord, accept this (service) from us. Indeed You (alone) are the Hearing, the Knowing.”
About this Du’a:
– Du’a Prophet Ibrahim (as) recited after building the Ka’bah with his son Ismael (as).
– You can recite this du’a whenever you would like for Allah (swt) to accept whatever
good you’ve just done.
2.
Rabbana waj’alnaa muslimaini laka wa min zurriyyatinaaa ummatam muslimatal laka
wa arinaa manaasikanaa wa tub ‘alainaa innaka antat Tawwaabur Raheem
“Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites [of worship] and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.”
About this Du’a:
– This Du’a can be recited to affirm your faith in Islam.
– It’s also a good du’a that asks for the success of the entire Muslim Ummah.
– Again this is a Du’a Prophet Ibrahim (as) recited after building the Ka’bah with his son.
These Dua’s are mentioned in the Quran back to back in Surah Al Baqarah verse
– 2:127 – and – 2:128 –

“Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhuriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama”
“Our Lord! Grant us from among our wives and offspring, comfort to our eyes and make
us a leader (i.e example for the righteous)” The “comfort to our eyes” means ‘a source of happiness due to their righteousness
About this Du’a (Benefits of this Du’a / reasons to recite this Du’a) :
– Asking Allah SWT for a blessed family, a united family unit
– Asking Allah for a righteous life partner
– Asking Allah for righteous children
– Can also be recited for married couple looking to get pregnant and have beautiful babies.
– A pregnant woman can recite it to ask Allah SWT for a safe pregnancy and a healthy newborn.
Allah SWT mentions this Du’a in (Surah Al-Furqan: verse 74)
4.
Rabbana atina fid dunya hasanatan fil akhirati hasanatan waki na a azabanar,
“Our lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the fire”.
About this Du’a:
– This is a general dua.
– Allah (swt) says don’t say Ya Allah give us in this world , rather Allah (swt) tells us this beautiful du’a by which we can ask Allah swt for what’s good for us BOTH in this world and the next/hereafter.
– This Du’a can be recited after the final tashahudd before Salam.
Allah (swt) mentions this DUA in Surah Al Baqarah : Ayah 201′

Rabbana afrigh ‘alainaa sabranw wa sabbit aqdaamanaa wansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen
“Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
About this Du’a:
– Asking Allah (swt) for protection, patience in whatever endeavour, and to be victorious.
– Prophetic Du’a for protection recited by Prophet Dawud (as): Dawud (as) was a
smaller, younger man and on paper it did not seem like he was favored to win a battle
against Jalut (Goliath). But we’re told, “and Allah granted him dominion and wisdom,
and imparted to him the knowledge of whatever He willed.”(2:251)
This Du’a is mentioned in the Quran in Surah Al Baqarah verse – 2:250 –
